I really never knew what to comment about this guy. All I know is that he made me laugh. He had brilliant, almost mystical like comedic timing...not overacting like Jim Carrey. You would catch YOURSELF laughing..The joke really didn't matter. It was the way he drew you into his insanity... that's the only way I can describe it.

He was a genius, but at 1:29 you can see Carson is actually getting sick and tired of it. That does not look like a pleased look. He seems to be a bit annoyed.

@Digging for Apples as a good comic should. BUT, i can imagine mr Carson's opinion. After all: it is kinda childish, ey?

Johnny just as confused by Jim Carrey's first appearance, Kevin Nealon's first appearance - i.e. the non traditional comic.
Joseph Kelley
Joseph Kelley پیش 2 ماه
traditional stand-up FROWNED on such appearances/antic's - even the Jay Leno's and Jerry Seinfeld's - "Set-up, (comical) reverse, punch-line." I can see the traditionalists' POV - i.e. traditional stand-up is what FORCES you to become a better writer. A more observant person. To did deeper and deeper. That's what made Johnny, Jay and Jerry - all great (and wealthy). -it's what MAKES the Nealon's, the Kaufman's and the Carrey's so amazing. (they flew in the FACE of Tradition- yet how many others were stuck out of the gate, discouraged, frustrated - probably thousands not quite as good but LIKE the non-traditionalists.) Either way you had to be SPECIAL to get past Johnny's IMPROV and COMEDY STORE scout(s). .

Andy FRAMED on the right by matching pink curtains. i.e. The Tonight Show SUGGESTED to Andy what color SPORTS coat to wear. (7:50). "There are no accidents in show business." . .

Great impression of Don-RickEL. .*(7:43) Andy JUST missing the pronunciation/spelling (but Tonight Show audience forgives Andy his nervousness). .

Jonny gently guides Andy out to Andy's "Mark." - i.e. where Andy would STAND for a jingle. Andy has now read a first grade reading comprehension book - and scared/frightened all of the guests/hosts/exec producers/show runners and censors. .(4:40) Satisfied but encouraged, Andy sets himself and to sing. .
Joseph Kelley
Joseph Kelley پیش 2 ماه
Andy pulls pants up to neck (at 4:23) - it's decided Andy will now do a short jingle (song) for Mr. Carson.

Andy continues reading as Fred tells Johnny to get outta there, get outta there, get outta there (cut to break). - But now they're STUCK because they've been patient/encouraging with Andy. If they snap NOW - i.e. "give Andy the hook - they'll seem two-faced." It's the proverbial point-of-no-return (@ 2: 35).
Joseph Kelley

I'm grateful that NBC turned down Johnny's request. To have a 9 mm Glock on Johnny's desk. Locked and loaded. (2:20). .

Andy checks to see if Andy might continue despite obvious difficulty, awkwardness. Johnny encourages Andy to stick with it. No matter how tough this story gets to read - Andy knows to just stick with it. Ride it out. Power through it.

Johnny lending a professorial/reading and comprehension help: "Down" explains Johnny. "That TRICKY word is down." Johnny says 'down' 15 times cuz it's important to story. Andy now won't get stuck next time around. -cuz Johnny was so patient/kind.

He proved that people are stupid sheep. The audience was there for his intertainment. He pushed the fringes of stupidly just to see how gullible people were. He actually got people to laugh at things that weren't really funny. He could actually be very funny if he wanted, but that bored him. He detested people and it irritated him how fake people really were. The joke was on the people that actually laughed at his stupidly. He even got people to hate him for doing obviously staged skits. In a nut shell he thrived on people loving and hating him for all the wrong reasons. He was brilliant. The jokes on all of you. He was the trolls troll. The father of fake reality tv.

I think it's about the times. Back then with old men like Carson and Dangerfield were still trying their zingers, Andy comes and does something unusual (not necessarily funny). With every art form, what is unusual and wierd becomes hot. Be it Andy back then or the duct-taped banana in Basel this year.
