Jack Lemmon could brilliantly do comedy AND drama. He also seemed to be a kind, decent man.❤ "The Apartment" may be my favorite movie ever.

It wasn't 8 months. "How long you've been aboard Mr. Pulver?" "F..f...f..fourteen months, sir." Its so funny now because even though Jack was in the role and Johnny saw it, they just didn't have any easy way of figuring things like this out then. They used to have to employ teams of researchers. They'd have to have access to the film, put it on a projector, get to the scene, watch it and find the answer. Or maybe somehow have a copy of the script. Took me about 15 seconds to find that scene.

Superb actor and a very kind, bright, gracious gentleman. (I had an extended conversation with him once, and he could not have been nicer or more pleasant.) My favorite Lemmon performance was in “Missing” - the pain and anguish he communicated with his eyes, voice and body language was brilliant and emotionally overwhelming.

had the great honor of meeting him at The Harvard Film Archive in '95 on my birthday, no less. (he was born nearby, and also attended Harvard). I told him, "big fan Jack, it all started for me w/ 'good neighbor Sam' when I was a kid" .he was very shy, but all smiles. found out later, he hated that film. HA! Romy Schnieder looks awfully good in it, tho.

Jack Lemmon has always been my favourite actor. I put my hands in his hand prints at Grauman's Theatre in Hollywood- what a thrill. Jack and Johnny here are pure class and intelligence. How I wish they were both here, and that TV now is like it was here, not the trash it is today.

lol...what a complaining pussy. bitching about 1 day of hard physical work. "oh my god i was so exhausted that day and we had to do it again afterward" yea he was exhausted cause he wasn't used to using his body. probably just sat around drinking all day like most of the actors from that era.

I would have liked being a real actor. Just once I'd like to have a real performance that feels good. My only chance was long ago, to practice a scene for a video that involved a teenager interrogating another and trying to catch him in a lie in gossiping fashion. It was sociopathic and pointless.

Jack was always the lovable American every-man. When I was young, without really thinking about it, I assumed these guys would be around forever. And with You Tube that's true to an extent.

I remember watching this interview when it was originally broadcast! I would have been only 14-15 years old. The story of the scuba experience on the “Airport” film was so funny to me that it always stuck with me. I am tickled I see that my memory of the story all these years later was pretty accurate-that’s how much of an impression it made on me back then! Thanks for posting this wonderful tribute to a terrific actor.

Great actor and a great chat show host chatting together, a great entertaining mix. Today's hosts spend most of the interview fake laughing and asking such shallow questions. Where are the Carsons & Cavetts gone, they were both such intelligent hosts, class acts.

martin so well said. talk shows now often seem so juvenile and so insecure...they don't just TALK any more in anything resembling a thoughtful or worthwhile conversation, at least not for more than about 10 seconds. they're so insecure that they think every moment has to be funny, the host is so worried about being funny, truly nauseous. and sad for we the viewers (the adults in the room anyway)

03/16/2020 Johnny Carson was always a pleasure to watch. Not like the late night hosts of recent. Seems like all they can do is run down the president & call it comedy. Johnny, as in this interview alone, has a very interesting & engaging exchange with another adult. No political talk, etc. Thank you for posting. 😊

"MIssing" was a great Movie, not a light Fun Comedy like The Odd Couple or Some Like It Hot. It was about the Chilean Coup against Salvador Alllende and an American Journalist who is killed by the JUnta for knowing too much. Jack Lemon plays the Journalist's Father. Sissy Spacek played the Journalist's Wife. It was a great Movie, but definitely not a Comedy.

To have your best and most painful work ruined in the lab! Then have to do it over again knowing it was your best work and is gone. I could tell when he talked about it that it still haunted him. If it were me, it would be hard not to hate the tech that ruined it; but then again, you can’t use your energy that way. I LOVED Jack Lemmon in The Odd Couple (the movie). He was as dry as a bone and funnier than anything I have ever seen. Especially the restaurant scene where he’s clearing his sinuses. I’m laughing thinking about it.

it really has nothing to do with agreeing at all. they could say things I agree with 100% and I would be just as disgusted. unlike those hacks, Carson understood he was there to ENTERTAIN, not preach.
